• Gary Cantor Durham’s Anti-Aging Fascination

  • Posted on August 30, 2017
  • Gary Cantor Durham, once upon a time, wanted to become a medical doctor or possible a surgeon. He wanted to prescribe the medicine that helped the patient to enjoy their life or engage in the life-saving surgery. This passion for helping people stemmed from his love for television shows like Trauma: Life in the ER. In these shows, valiant doctors or surgeon would labor to save patients, giving them hope when they were most helpless. Although Gary Cantor Durham is today still focused on helping the hopeless, he has pursued it through other means.

When he was 13 years old, Durham became obsessed with genetics, biology, and regenerative medicine after watching a Youtube video of Dr. Aubrey De Grey, a biomedical gerontologist who is now world-famous for his theories and research on the subject of anti-aging. Dr. De Grey firmly believes that the first person to live to be 1,000 years old is already alive. From that point forward, Gary Cantor Durham was consumed with learning more about these theories of science. Today, he is a member of the Genetics and Molecular Biology Department at the University of North Carolina, where he is a 4th year Ph.D. He is still pursuing this field of study and still believes in it just as fervently. He cannot wait to contribute to the field more meaningfully.
