Since childhood, Gary Cantor has had his eye on the prize -- his eyes firmly peeled to a career in medicine. Watching surgeons perform on television and save countless lives, this now-Durham, N.C. resident wanted to follow in these footsteps as a kid growing up in Florida. His aspirations gradually developed into desires for a career in medical research, studying the human body and why it performed in certain ways. He was only 13 years old, but Cantor knew his path of study and has pursued it since that young age. Today, with an undergraduate degree already, he works toward this future career as a PhD candidate graduate student at the University of North Carolina in the genetics and molecular biology department.
